Standing with Michigan nurses, building more choice into care

Nurses are asking for fair pay, safer staffing and a stronger voice. CarePods is building around those priorities with clearer terms, flexible shift access and practical support.

What CarePods stands for

  • Respect clinician time, preferences and choice.
  • Make compensation and facility terms understandable.
  • Connect eligible shifts with practical support.
  • Listen to frontline concerns and keep safer care central.

Michigan nurses are asking to be heard

Behind every staffing conversation are people making clinical decisions, supporting families and keeping patients safe. Nurses asking for fair pay, manageable workloads, meaningful benefits and a voice are asking for conditions that respect the work. CarePods shares those priorities and is building a more clinician-centered option around them.

In September 2026, the Michigan Nurses Association reported that Alma nurses reached an agreement in principle with MyMichigan, canceling a strike planned for September 21. The announcement highlighted community support and collective bargaining. [1]

In July 2026, MNA reported that University of Michigan registered nurses ratified a contract with 13.25% total base-wage increases over three years, improved staffing ratios and workplace violence protections. These gains belong to the nurses and their bargaining process. [2]

What the statewide evidence tells us

The 2026 Nurse Licensure Survey collected responses from January 13 to April 7 and included 16,891 participants overall. The charts show weighted findings among nurses who planned to leave nursing within five years. [3]

Clear pay. Clear fees. No guessing.

Clear staffing prices start with the amount paid to a clinician, the amount charged to a facility, and the services included. A published Michigan contract offers one concrete example, while CarePods states an 8% platform commission. These measures use different bases, so comparing percentages alone does not establish savings.

Clear terms should be the starting point

When staffing arrangements leave pay, fees or requirements unclear, clinicians and facilities carry the friction. A nurse should not have to chase several messages to understand a shift. A facility should be able to understand what it is paying for. Legacy agencies vary, but opaque terms and limited scheduling choice deserve scrutiny wherever they appear.

CarePods’ approach starts with making the essentials visible before acceptance: compensation, shift length, facility requirements and support eligibility. Facilities deserve understandable pricing; clinicians deserve understandable pay. Clear terms should also explain changes and cancellations, not leave people guessing after they have arranged their day.

Before accepting a shift

Compensation
Rate, payment timing and any applicable deductions.
Shift expectations
Hours, role, credentials and facility requirements.
Support eligibility
What is available, covered and subject to limits.
Changes and questions
Cancellation terms and a clear route to support.

More choice, with clear responsibilities

For eligible independent clinicians working on a 1099 basis, CarePods is designed to offer a choice among available shifts for which they qualify, based on their time and preferences. That can make room for work around life outside the facility. Availability, eligibility and program terms still apply, and work is not guaranteed.

Independent work is an option, not a universally better substitute for full-time employment or a solution to every workforce problem. Contractors may have different tax, insurance and benefits responsibilities and different protections; a 1099 label alone does not establish lawful classification. Scheduling flexibility supports choice, but it is not proof of reduced burnout.

Care for the people who care for our communities

A shift begins before arrival and does not make everyday needs disappear. Getting there, finding food and navigating coverage can take time and energy. CarePods is building practical support alongside pay, with availability and eligibility explained for the relevant shift and program.

Transportation that fits the shift

Eligible Uber Health transportation can help address the trip to or from a facility. It is transportation support, not clinician health insurance. Service areas, ride availability and program rules matter, so a clinician needs to know what applies before relying on a ride.

Meal access during a demanding day

Eligible DoorDash meal credits can help when food options are limited. Merchant hours, delivery reach, allowances and facility handoff rules still shape what is possible. A meal credit supports food access; it does not create a protected break or replace staffing coverage for one.

Help navigating benefit options

Stride-related health-coverage and benefit resources can help eligible clinicians explore available options and understand next steps. They are not a promise of employer-paid insurance. Useful navigation makes choices easier to understand without pretending that every clinician or shift has identical coverage.

Listening is part of the operating model

Clinician centered work needs a feedback loop, not just a booking screen. CarePods’ commitment is to build clear ways to raise pay questions, flag confusing shift details and report transportation or delivery issues. Support follow-up should explain the next step and who is responsible, rather than sending clinicians between disconnected services.

Listening also means reviewing recurring concerns with facility contacts and improving the workflow. These are practices to build and evaluate, not testimonials or proven retention results. Frontline feedback should inform decisions while clinical responsibilities and safe patient care remain central.

Transparent terms. Real choice. Respect.

Standing alongside nurses’ concerns means taking pay, workload and voice seriously. CarePods is building an alternative centered on understandable terms, clinician choice and practical support. Benefits do not replace wages, safe staffing, employment protections or collective bargaining. Platform staffing cannot replace hospital reform. It can be one more option built with respect for the people who care for our communities.
